Bio

After earning his undergraduate degree from Indiana University, Dr. Barksdale completed his Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine. He then completed his general surgery residency at the University of Kentucky. During his residency, he completed two years of research and was the recipient of a National Research Service Award from the National Institutes of Health. He then completed a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Minnesota.

He joined Cardiac Surgery Associates in 2007 with his practice focusing on adult cardiac and thoracic surgery. He has a special interest in minimally invasive procedures to treat atrial fibrillation including use of the Da Vinci robotic system. He also has a special interest in robotic lung surgery and in the treatment of slipped rib syndrome.

Dr. Barksdale has performed a high volume of complex cardiac and thoracic procedures with excellent outcomes and is committed to helping patients recover more quickly and comfortably through Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols. These are care pathways designed to enhance preoperative optimization and facilitate a faster recovery.

He is certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and has been listed as a Top Doctor by Indianapolis Monthly.
