Dr. Mondoñedo is a cardiothoracic surgeon with Cardiac Surgery Associates, S.C. He grew up in Southern California before moving to the East Coast where he graduated summa cum laude with an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering at Boston University. There he also completed a master’s degree developing a selective ventilator delivery system for status asthmaticus before continuing on in the combined MD-PhD physician scientist program where his research thesis utilized computational modeling, medical imaging, and novel devices to study lung mechanics in COPD/Emphysema. He then completed a surgical residency at the University of Michigan in the I-6 Integrated Cardiac Surgery program where he also participated in multiple research projects with the Michigan Society of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons (MSTCVS) Quality Collaborative. Under the mentorship of Drs. Steven Bolling, Matthew Romano, and Gorav Ailawadi, he obtained advanced training in the field of mitral valve repair, surgery for atrial fibrillation including the MAZE procedure, as well as minimally invasive and transcatheter techniques. He is also trained in TAVR explant, a growing epidemic facing cardiac surgeons, and advanced techniques for aortic annular root enlargement. Dr. Mondoñedo is happily married with two wonderful daughters who are avid Disney fans
and pin collectors.
