After completing his undergraduate studies at Auburn University, Dr. Miller was commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy. He went on to earn his Doctor of Medicine from Tulane University School of Medicine, where he was promoted to Lieutenant. He completed his internship, general surgery residency, and chief residency at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
Following his training, Dr. Miller was promoted to Lieutenant Commander and assigned to Fleet Surgical Team SEVEN. During this assignment, he served as the sole general surgeon supporting all Pacific Fleet amphibious operations and acted as the Amphibious Squadron Surgeon. In this capacity, he provided mission-critical surgical care to the USS Wasp Amphibious Readiness Group and the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit. His service earned him the Surface Warfare Medical Department Officer qualification, as well as both the Navy Achievement Medal and Navy Commendation Medal in recognition of his exemplary performance and dedication.
Dr. Miller subsequently returned stateside to Naval Hospital Jacksonville (Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Jacksonville), where he served as Chair of Surgery, residency program liaison, and Surgeon Champion for Quality. Under his leadership, the hospital achieved meritorious outcomes as recognized by the American College of Surgeons. In acknowledgment of his contributions, he was again awarded the Navy Commendation Medal.
He later fulfilled a longstanding professional goal by completing fellowship training in cardiothoracic surgery at Loyola University Medical Center. Upon completion of his training, Dr. Miller joined Cardiac Surgical Associates, the largest cardiothoracic surgical practice in the United States.
Dr. Miller is married and has three children. Outside of his professional work, he enjoys sailing.
